Question 3: Creepy Crawlers

Ross collects lizards, beetles, and worms. He has more worms than lizards and beetles together. Altogether in the collection there are twelve heads and twenty-six legs. How many lizards does Ross have?

  1. if they are 12 heads then they are 12 animals. More than half have to be worms so 7 worms, 3 beetles and 2 lizards. That equals 12 heads and assuming beetles have six legs than 26 legs.

  3. Ross has 2 lizards. what i did was i knew in total there were 12 heads and there were more worms then lizards and beetles, so i automaticlly took out 7 of 12 heads for the worms. then there was 5 heads to fill in left,i knew that 3x6 is 18, and from that by adding another 8(4+4)i would have 26. so that is how i got my answer.:)

  4. Ross has 2 lizards.
    I found this out by:
First of all Ross has more worms than lizards and beetles put together, so that would mean he had 7 or more worms.
That would leave five other creatures.
You cannot divide 26 by 6 without a remainder(a beetle has 6 legs) so I subtracted 4 legs from 26 legs and got 22. You can't divide 22 by 6 so I subtracted 4 more and got 18. 6 goes into 18 3 times so there are three beetle's. I subtracted 8 legs from 16 in total, and since a lizard has 4 legs and 8 divided by 4 is 2, i concluded that there were 2 lizard.

I'm sorry for the long explanation!
    Have a great day everybody!!!
    Peace.

  5. Hey everyone,
So I got the same answer as everyone else, 2 lizards. So first I took a look the number of heads and thought of all the possible combinations of beetles and lizards. I figured I would see how many legs there would be for each combination. I started with 7 worms, 2 lizards, and 3 beetles. Well, I know that worms have no legs so no legs there. I did 2 times 4= 8 (lizards) and 3 times 6= 18 (beetles). I added 8+18 and it equaled 26. See you all at school!

  6. Answer:
    7 worms, 3 beetles, 2 lizards
I found this by first doing the calculations for the number of legs (26). First, I added the legs for the 3 beetles together to get 18 legs. Then I added the legs for 2 lizards (8) to the beetles’ legs to get 26 legs in total. To find the number of heads I added the number of lizard heads (2) and beetles heads (3) to get five heads. Then I added the 7 worm’s heads to the lizard and beetles heads to get 12 heads in total.
That is how I got the answer.

  7. Hey guys,
I got 2 lizards. First, I figured out how many had to be worms, that would be 7 or more. I assumed it was 7, so there are 5 heads left. So i started trying out different possibilites (i know genious right?). If there was 4 lizards (24 legs) than that would mean a lizard had 2 legs (even more genious). So i ended up with the conclusion that Bob i dont think thats him name... oh wait let me check... fine its Ross (but i was close) has 2 lizards, 7 worms, and 3 beetels.
    WOW TALK ABOUT OBSESSION!

  8. i am so mad its not even funny my mouse clicked the back button by itslef 3 times!!!! this is the third time am writing this!!! it has a back switch that is easy to click. So by now there is absolutely 2 lizards. ( Well maybe more thatn a 50% chance) so 2 L = 2 H and 8 LE. 3 B = 3 H and 18 LE. So 2 = 3 = 5 and 18 = 8 = 26. W has no LE's so it has 7 H and 5 = 7 = 12 H.I HATE MY MOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. i have never done this before so it might not show my name so I'm Devon and Ross has 2 lizards. A beetle has 6 legs a lizard has 4 and a worm has none. 12=12 animals so there has to be 12. If there is more worms then lizards and beetles together, there is many different answers. If there is 26 legs, there must be 3 beetles (Which is 18 legs) and 2 lizards (which is 8 legs) 2+3=5 which is smaller then 7 (amount of worms if there is 26 legs) so the answer is 2.

  12. first of all i would like to thank ross for using my valuable time counting her stupid lizards and second of all if the beetles have six legs and worms dont have legs only heads and if theyre are more worms than beetles and lizards together ( not counting paul, ringo, john and george) there are 7 worms for 7 heads and no legs 3 beatles is 3 heads and 18 legs plus 2 lizards is 26 legs and 12 heads so the answer ( without including the beatles who surprisingly from the band name still had 2 legs) is 2 lizards. NOW ROSS WAS THAT REALLY NECCESERY IT TOOK LIKE 5 STUPID MINUTES!!!!!!! from beowulf!
